Identity Card Preview Releasing on 29th August

India films have been popular in the West. Over the past five-ten years, Bollywood has built a reputation for its own desi versions of Indie films. This new breed of Bollywood cinema has proved to be a great alternate to big blockbusters and masala-packed action films. Made in English and Hindi both, or sometimes marked as hybrid Hinglish, these films have gained a steady fan following. From Hyderabad Blues to Bheja Fry and Tanu Weds Manu to Vicky Donor, these alternate string of films have kept us equally engaged and entertained. Finding Fanny is a new satirical film, directed and written by Homi Adajania, that continues in the vein of meaningful cinema. The drama is produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films and presented by Fox Star Studios. Deepika Padukone, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur, and Arjun Kapoor feature in prominent roles. Finding Fanny premiers in Mumbai two weeks before the film's world release with oomph and confidence. Finding Fanny revolves around five characters who arc partly amusing and partly dysfunctional. Set in the village of Pocolim, in the heart of Goa, the movie depicts typical life in the village: slow paced and adventure free. However, the monotony of daily life is broken when Ferdie (Naseeruddin Shah), receives a letter that is slipped under his door. He realizes that it is the letter he had written 46 years ago to the love of his life, Stefanie Fernandes (Anjali Patil), asking for her hand in marriage. To his utter shock, he discovers that it had never been delivered. All these years Ferdie has lived a life of melancholy regret, believing that Stefanie had rejected him. He decides to find his beloved Fanny (as he fondly called her) and tell her the truth. While Ferdie wonders where Fanny had been for 46 years, his friends decide to help him out. When Ferdie decides to take a trip in search of Fanny, four colorful characters from the village decide to join him. Among these are a young virgin widow (Deepika Padukone), a bitter mechanic (Arjun Kapoor), a belligerent artist (Pankaj Kapur) and an obnoxious self-appointed "Lady" of Pocolim (Dimple Kapadia). The comical story is not just Ferdie's journey to find love but also his friends' journey to find meaning in their pointless lives. Arjun Kapoor who enjoyed playing his role in Finding Fanny, gives the entire credit to the director. He says, "Homi was clear about what he wanted the film to be like. He wanted it to seem like a regular conversation, and to seem like it's out of real life. He wanted the quirkiness and humour to come out in a dead pan way. I enjoyed working on Finding Fanny. It was like a holiday for me." Deepika Padukone plays an equally quirky role in the film. The trailer reveals Dcepika (aka Angie) has suffered a failed relationship as she says, "The first time I was kissed was on my wedding day -- 15 minutes before my husband choked and died. I'm a virgin." Deepika Padukone, who has acted in major blockbusters from Om Shanti Om to Ramleela, is seen in a low-budget film for the first time. Explaining her decision to try out alternate cinema, she says, "You know, people think I've made this great strategic move by doing a film in English, alternate cinema and all that. But I am not playing chess and there are no calculated moves. Homi Adjania had told me about the 'Fanny' film during Cocktail and it stayed with me. During the promotion of Cocktail I said, 'Let's do it.' As soon as I found a 30-day window Finding Fanny happened." Just like as film script is off kilter, the actual shoot of the film was an out of the world experience. The director, Homi Adjania, says, "Finding Fanny was a shooting experience that was almost as goofy and hilarious as the story itself." When asked about the film production, the director said, "It was a very hard shoot, which we knocked off in 41 days and it was only possible owing to an amazing bunch of people." Naseeruddin Shah plays a phenomenal role as Ferdie. So does Dimple Kapadia. The director says, "I couldn't make the film without Naseer because nobody else could play his character. As for Dimple, if I make a film without her, she will have my head on a platter." Apart from the talented actors, the script of Finding Fanny will make the audience laugh and cry. After all, underneath the quirkiness, it is a touching tale of love lost and found. Expounding on the story and concept of Finding Fanny, he says, "Love makes normal people do nutty things. But what if they were already a little nutty to begin with? Deepika and Arjun kapoor signed the film before Chcnnai Express and Two States had released, and didn't waver because they had the same conviction." Now that's the dedication to making a good film.
