Bollywood Comedy Movie Humshakals Releasing on 20th June, 2014
Any comedy that revolves around lost and found twins, mistaken identities and the consequential hilarious drama is bound to be compared to the 80s Sanjeev Kapoor starer, Angoor directed by Gulzar, which in turn was based on Shakespeare's play The Comedy of Errors. But what if instead of the twins, there were triplets? And what if there were three pairs of triplets? Wouldn't it be triple the fun?
Humshakals is a Bollywood comic drama that offers exactly that. Directed by Sajid Khan, produced by Vashu Bhagani (Pooja Entertainment) and co-produced by Fox Star Studios, the film stars the kings of comedy, Sif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, and Ram Kapoor. Yes, all three in triple roles! If anyone has doubts if the film is a remake of 1982 classic Angoor, Director Sajid assures us it's a original comedy. "Initially, when I talked about the film two years back, news spread that it is a remake of Angoor. But it is not." After directing Himmatwala, a remake of the 1983 Jeetendra starrer, which flopped at the box-office, it's understandable that Mr Khan
doesn't want to dabble in remakes. Sajid Khan, actor-turned-director, who hosted the popular TV talk show, Superstars, says his stint on TV helped him etch out certain characters for the film. "I wanted to make a new kind of comedy everyone enjoys and is not vulgar," he added. Now that sounds like a family entertainer, no? Apart from the male stars, the film flaunts three lovely leading ladies: Bipasha Basu , Esha Gupta and Tamannaah Bhatia. After sharing center-stage with Bipasha in Raaz 3, Esha further connected with the Bengali beauty during the filming of Sajid Khan's Humshakals. "We clicked immediately during Raaz 3 itself and then spent a lot of time together in Mauritius during the shooting of Humshakals." So were there catfights and competition between the three divas as the paparazzi reported? "For starters, Bipasha is a very happy papparazi positive person and so am I. None of us are the kind who would sit down and start gossiping," says Esha who has been enjoying a steady journey in Bollywood post Jannat Z Raaz 3 and Chakravintha. In fact there was a great camaraderie between the entire film crew, not just the three actresses. A little more than a year after her last Bollywood release Himmahvala, Tamannaah Bhatia is back in Bollywood with Humshakals. While shooting for Humshakals, Tamannaah, who plays a VJ
in the film, got stuck while enacting her role. She had to address a huge crowd and wasn't confident. Director Sajid came to her rescue. "Tamannaah was a little scared and didn't know how to execute the scene and make it look real on screen. So I showed her how to do it in terms of holding the mike and getting the right diction. I discovered the phrase 'host and dost' when I used to host shows earlier," says Sajid Khan."Having been a host, I know how difficult it is to keep the audience entertained. In a way, it helped me imparting knowledge to her and she picked it well. When you watch the scene, you will feel like you're watching a professional host. I enacted the scene in front of her and she copied me exactly,"
adds Sajid Khan. Himesh Reshammiya composes the music for the film. Already the songs are climbing the charts, and playing on FM Radio stations. The most popular of them is a foot thumping number, Piya Ka Bazaar. Filmmaker Sajid shot the song-and-dance track for a whopping 2 crore Rupees. This makes the song not just the biggest ever number for Sajid but also Bollywood. The song appears in the climax and features the entire cast of the film. Laugh your guts out. Watch Hamshakals at Albion & Woodside Cinema on June 20th 2014!
